The Fundraiser Register
The Fundraiser Register
The Fundraiser Register is a vital tool that helps keep public fundraising in Aotearoa transparent, professional, and trustworthy.
Managed by the Public Fundraising Regulatory Association (PFRA) in partnership with Sales Assured Limited (SAL), the Register records every fundraiser working on behalf of PFRA member charities and their subcontractors. This ensures that only trained, authorised, and compliant fundraisers are active in the field.
The Register helps to:
- Make sure all fundraisers are properly trained and accredited before starting work
- Confirm that fundraisers meet background and security checks
- Monitor who is fundraising, where, and on behalf of which charity
- Prevent fundraisers from moving between organisations without proper checks
- Strengthen public confidence in face-to-face fundraising
By maintaining this system, the PFRA can quickly identify and address issues, protect the public, and support members to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and accountability.
Every fundraiser listed on the Register has completed PFRA Code of Conduct training and, for door-to-door roles, a criminal history check. This helps ensure that the people representing charities in our communities are safe, informed, and responsible.
The Fundraiser Register is at the heart of how we build trust - giving charities, fundraisers, and the public confidence that fundraising in Aotearoa is accountable, transparent and trusted.
What to look for:
- the fundraiser must always wear charity branded clothing
- have an ID badge clearly visible
- show a copy of their Fundraising License (Auckland & Wellington) when fundraising on public or council property
- proof of permission to fundraise on private property
What to expect from fundraisers in public places:
- to always be polite, professional and respectful
- they are not to approach people who are seated or waiting in a queue
- they are not to obstruct the public
- they are not to initiate physical contact with you
- they must not follow you down the street
- they must stay in the location they have been assigned by the council permit
- they must not stand too close to the kerb
